Reviewed Showcase App
zFlick
March 24th 2009 | by James
zFlick" is a simple desktop application for viewing Flickr images.
Flick enables you to search for anything that your mind could desire. If you come across a really cool image save it! Simply drag-n-drop to your desktop. zFlick" takes the capabilities of Adobe AIR and produces a rich user friendly animated interface.
I liked the simplicity of the app and the smooth transitions so it’s worth giving it a try, view the video review for an insight.
Video Review
zFlick from RefreshingApps on Vimeo.
zFlick Adobe AIR application reviewed by RefreshingApps.com. zFlick is a great desktop app for viewing images from Flickr.
Design eye
Nice design and the transitions are smooth and timely. There appears to be a bug where the results are shown with only half of the query string you used. As an example I searched ‘italy rome’ and the zFlick" just displayed ‘italy’.
I’m not even sure you need to replay the string that you searched for as the search bar is still visible, probably best to remove that from the UI.
The drag saving of the image is a nice extra feature although a tooltip would be nice to inform the user of that functionality.
Technical eye
Built using Adobe Flash and the Adobe AIR SDK.
In Summary
A cool simple Flickr app but the good part is in it’s simplicity.
If you want a quick no fuss search then give it a go. I’m finding it useful for researching my holiday destinations for this year.

I’ve been using this application for a while, I love the ease of use, cool transitions and powerful searching via the FlickR network. My favorite feature is how you can not only drag Images to the desktop, but also to other applications like iChat, AIM, MS Word, Photoshop, basically anything that accepts PNGS as a image format.
Simply awesome! I love it!
