WebKut - AIR screenshot tool
May 06th 2008 | by James
I though of building an application like WebKut a long time ago but never got around to it. WebKut is a simple AIR application that allows you to load in a website then take a snapshot that saves to a location on your machine.
There are three ways of snapping a screen shot: complete page (upto 2880px heigh – current Flash limit), current view and then a selection. I would prefer the selection to not automatically save the current selection when the mouse is released. The options offer the choice of JPG, PNG or PDF as well as the output directory.
The app worked well for me except the output directory would not auto show when a snapshot was taken. I guess this is mainly due to the different paths used on Windows and OSX.
Design Eye
Minimal styling works well and the icon is the real strong point with the apps identity. Simple design with a numbered step approach works well for first time users.
Technical Eye
Built using Flex and the AlivePDF framework for generating the PDF output.

Cool! But do you know what ‘kut’ means in Dutch? ;)

No I don’t but I can have a good guess! I wonder if the developer knows that. Thanks J

Hum…
Well, I am the developer, and I don’t know what it means but I’m sure I can guess ! -

I use Snagit for this type of use – is there some compelling reason that WebKut would be better? And, that name really should be changed, given the definition in dutch…
