Toro Twitter AIR client
October 04th 2008 | by James
Ah yes another Twitter client, if you have not found your ideal Twitter client then this is another one to try. Toro is a very simple Twitter client that aims for a speedier Twitter by developer Christopher Hayen.
For your download you get an Adobe AIR application with a tabbed interface for recent, public, friends, replies and search. I must admit that it is fairly quick loading in my streams and it’s nice to have the new Twitter search integrated.
Although I do miss not having a tab for direct tweets, and personally now that we have Twitter search I don’t care much for the public timeline.
The setting menu only has two options so far both regarding notifications. They appear on the top right of the
What is interesting is the feedback panel. It shows a current list of requested features and the amount of votes for that feature:
Here’s how it works – With every release, you get two votes to vote on what you think the next feature should be. Submit feature requests using the feedback area and they’ll be reviewed and added to the list.
You can now add shortened links in your Tweet and it counts down your remaining characters from 140. There is a short cut arrow to send a reply Tweet but no shortcut to send a direct one.
All told a nice simple Twitter client, although I do prefer the extra features I get with Tweetdeck my current client of choice. What do you think?
The developer Christopher is also building an Apple iPhone version of Toro, check his blog for more.

Nice simple UI with a fairly small desktop footprint. I would like to see a greater contrast between the active and in-active tabs. The link button on the Tweet area needs to look more like a button as it gets a little lost. Nice large font used for the Tweets.
Although I would have definitely used a sans-serif font for the notifications popup.
Technical eye
Built using the Twitter API and Adobe Flex 3.

Hey thanks for the review. Toro is a work in progress and I will definitely start working on the problems you pointed out.

I’ve been using Toro for…Hmm…I’m not exactly sure how long. At least a couple weeks. Perhaps even a month. I must say that Toro is my very favorite Twitter client – and I have downloaded every single app I can get my hands on. I’m always searching for the best of the best where applications are concerned. I most definitely found it with Toro.
Not only is Toro completely user friendly, but it’s very stable as well. Its refresh rate is incredibly impressive. NONE of the other Twitter clients out there can keep up with my Tweets like Toro does. It literally amazes me on a daily basis.
Although Toro is beta right now, I’m hoping that won’t be off-putting to people. Seriously – its beta version is superior to every other version out there.
I apologize for rambling. I simply cannot say enough good things about Toro. As if the application in itself wasn’t awesome enough, the creator, Christopher Hayen, is a truly delightful person. He’s always asking for input, ideas, and wanting to know what we…the users…want from a Twitter client.
Okay…I will wrap it up now. If you don’t already have Toro, please do yourself a huge favor and go download it. You will not be sorry. :)

Well thanks for your write up Karen, it’s always good to get the feedback from users of apps. It’s just another useful channel for the developer to get feedback from the community.
Christopher it is a great app and very fast and I really liked your feedback idea. Keep up the great work and I wish you the best with Toro.
Thanks again James.
