Well what can I say about the new Pandora desktop application built with Adobe AIR ? Err not alot really because due to silly rights issues anyone outside of the US of A can’t access Pandora let alone the desktop app.

So if you have a few words and possibly a screenshot of the Pandora AIR application then send it over to me and i’ll post it up and give you full credit for helping a poor European developer out.

Update Thanks to Chris for sending me the screenshots.

It’s my understanding that Pandora’s ridiculous “geographical limitations” fall down pretty quick in the face of an openproxy server in the US. Just saying.

Just installed it. Sadly, I’d have to give this one quite a knock. As far as I can tell, it just uses the built-in Webkit to display the Pandora website. That’s it. Seriously. It’s a window with normal WinXP decorations, and a scrollbar on the left. If I wanted this bottom-of-the-barrel functionality, I’d use XULRunner/Prism.

...Now I’m just waiting for this song to finish so I can uninstall it. Even with being less-than-impressed, Pandora is a good site with nice, intuitive functionality. This just isn’t a Pandora app—it’s a Pandora-website-viewing-app. And I’ve already got Firefox.

Michael, I gave up trying to find a proxy that worked thanks anyway.

Allen, thanks for the overview, doesn’t sound great to me. That’s what AIR apps are not for, packaging up a website for the desktop. You’re correct if you wanted that then Prism would be one solution.

guys – check out pandoraboy if you have a mac and if you’re outside the US try witopia.net for a very cost effective VPN service.

On the plus side, you can close the window and just control stuff by right-clicking on the application in OS X’s dock. That’s fine enough for me.
