Lita SQLite admin tool in AIR

Lita is another useful tool for AIR developers by David Deraedt who has developed a few other excellent AIR tools including the previously reviewed ADM.

Lita is an administration interface for SQLite databases. It lets you edit your databases structure and data in a dedicated environment. While most of its features are compatible with any sqlite database, it was primarily designed to administrate AIR application databases. Some features, such as encryption, and field types are AIR only.

As we all know Adobe AIR apps can make good use of the database functionality that is powered by SQLite. As a developer you may be used to database utilities for the MySQL database like PHPMyAdmin or CocoaMySQL

Design eye

Nothing to completely blow you away with the UI here however the layout follows the design conventions of other database management tools.

Nice iconography, the text is easy to read and the tabbed and paneled interface works well given the type of information being displayed.

Technical eye

Built using Adobe Flex builder 3 and the AIR database API’s.

In summary

Another tool in the box for AIR developers engaged in creating apps with local database storage.

While simple, I felt the design is one of the best UIs i’ve seen on a SQL admin tool. Most of the layouts look like they’ve been written in vi by to be displayed in pico. ;)

Good point Rob thanks. It is a nice UI and the fact that it is just a slightly tweaked Flex UI shows what great things can be done.

I guess I’m used to CocoaMySQL which doesn’t have a bad UI in my opinion. I just think that it is a really useful tool to have for those moments when you really need to see what is going on in that database!
