Flump is a simple Adobe AIR application that allows your to download all of the public photos for a specific Flickr account.

The Flump app was developer by Mike Chambers and Lee Brimelow for the Adobe OnAIR tour bus using Adobe Flex 3. The source code is also available from Google Code so it would be a useful to have a look at the code and learn a few things.

Th idea is that you enter a Flickr username or id, set a download directory filename mask and hit start. In reality as you may know the name in a Flickr URL is not necessarily the same as that persons username, handy. Also you might not know the users ID. A handy site mentioned in the Flump docs is idGettr which was new to me but does a great hob of getting:

Use this tool to find your Flickr user or group id. Just enter the address of your photostream or group pool and it’ll find the number for you

I tried this with my account, and Flump just managed to download corrupted files with no extension. Turns out that the Flickr account must be a pro and the user must have licensed the images as creative commons.

I did have success with the Adobe OnAIR tour bus Flickr stream ( with Flickr ID of 8576717@N04).

UPDATE – There is now a version of Flump optimised for Linux, check the Google code site out.

Nice simple looking app. An overall progress meter would have been nice, but as the Flump page says they have some updates planned.
