If your from the UK you will have heard of the sun newspaper and it’s history of the page 3 girls. So you would not expect the Sun to develop just a plain boring news reading AIR app would you? Er no.

In the Sun’s own words:

Dressed in a stunning range of lingerie, Keeley will be at your beck and call 24/7 and comes armed with all the information you need, whether it’s celeb’s drunken antics, the latest football transfer news or the Page 3 girl of the day.

The Sun presents Desktop Keeley, a twist on the usual desktop AIR newsreaders that we usually see. Built by agency Glue London the AIR app is well presented with an interesting use of video.

The reader is quite basic in functionality showing only a single story at a time from one of the three categories; Sport, Showbiz or Page 3.

You can alter the preferences for the story delivery timing, what category to show at the start and when you would like Keeley to come out and play. When you get a news article Keeley will introduce it for you.

As Andrew Shorten mentioned on his blog, Keeley is quite popular so this AIR app should go down a storm.

Design eye

It’s a very good implementation of video in a transparent AIR app. You don’t see many transparent video elements in AIR apps so it’s interesting to see.

The app has a very strong bold identity with clear typography. Another thing that caught my eye was the button mouse-over transitions. They were fast and gave clear feedback in a vertical wipe effect all with the same timing.

It is clear that an interactive agency has been involved with the app’s development and the branding.
