The BBC who we know are working on a full desktop iPlayer built using Adobe AIR, have released a beta. Head on over to get your hands on the first version. Although there are a few issues with this version.
Firstly you will need to be in the UK. Secondly and most annoyingly, I can’t seem to get it to work! It seems that others on Twitter have the same issues, it just directs you to the browser webpage. Totally confused. This is not a good start guys.
So hence no review on the iPlayer desktop AIR application yet i’ll give them a chance to get things sorted.
A review is up complete with a video intro and how to get it setup, let me know what you think?
Good day to launch though, when AIR for Linux 1.5 goes out of beta too.
UPDATE
To get it to work you need to download the AIR app, go to the iPlayer labs site to opt-in to be a beta tester then find a programme for download like this one. You will only get the extra download option on programes that are correctly encoded for the AIR desktop player.
