Facebook ActionScript 3 API

Some great news this morning from the guys over at Adobe. There is now an ActionScript 3 API for Facebook on Google Code. This is an official API and Adobe have included a new section over at the DevNet purely for Facebook.

This is fantastic news for all those people developer apps and widgets using the Flash Platform. Daniel Dura has a quick introductory video tutorial on creating your first Application using Flex Builder on the DevNet.

Silverlight now competes with AIR on the desktop

At Mix 09 Microsoft announced that it’s Silverlight product can now run on the desktop for both Windows and Mac. This places the Microsoft offering as a competitor with Adobe AIR.

However upon closer examination the two technologies are coming at the desktop RIA space differently. AIR Plugin based application

Interesting read today on InsideRIA by Giorgio Natili about creating an AIR application that uses a plug-in based architecture model.

It is more of an exploratory article rather than tutorial, however it’s a very interesting read on the subject of architecture and security considerations.

Multitouch tablet using Adobe AIR

From a tweet by Chad Udell (@visualrinse) this is a video of a concept tablet with mulitouch built using Adobe AIR.

This is direct from the MIT Mobile Experience Lab (mobile.mit.edu) and look totally awesome. There is some detailed notes in the description of the video as to the system setup they used this included a PS3 webcam.

The application is an Adobe AIR app programmed in AS3, loading in Google Maps and plotting geo-coded photos onto a map of Venice, Italy.
