I came across a website dedicated to code examples for Adobe AIR. It’s obviously called AIR Examples and is located at http://airexamples.com/.

Written by Peter deHaan who works on the Adobe Flex SDK QA team, is probably better known for his other blog Flex Examples ( http://blog.flexexamples.com/ ) but also runs ActionScript examples too. And I thought running this blog was time consuming!

The BBC who we know are working on a full desktop iPlayer built using Adobe AIR, have released a beta. Head on over to get your hands on the first version. Although there are a few issues with this version.

Firstly you will need to be in the UK. Secondly and most annoyingly, I can’t seem to get it to work! It seems that others on Twitter have the same issues, it just directs you to the browser webpage. Totally confused. This is not a good start guys.

So hence no review on the iPlayer ...

Another big milestone for Adobe AIR was reached today when the Adobe AIR 1.5 runtime for Linux graduated out of beta. A visit to the Adobe Labs pages for the linux version of AIR results in a polite message saying that the AIR runtime is now available from the usual Adobe AIR download page.

This is great news for Linux users as they can now have a solid platform for cross platform applications on which to run some fantastic AIR apps that need the new 1.5 version like the latest Twhirl.

Adobe have placed the videos of some presentations from this years Adobe Max Conference in North America. Unfortunately they didn’t record any sessions from the European Max so you won’t get to see a rerun of my great session!

So head on over to Adobe TV and get viewing. So far there are two that are targetted specifically AIR but I’m sure more will be added soon.

If you attended my talk at Adobe Max on Perfecting the User Experience in AIR then you will note how I talked about the influences around us and that we should look away for design and experience inspiration. Well I came across this set of slides from Create with Context about how real users find the iPhone. It is very detailed and graphically heavy explaining where users got lost or misunderstood what the developers & designers at Apple intended them to mean.

How does this fit into AIR ...

For those who attended my session at Adobe Max Europe in Milan last week, I have uploaded my presentation for your viewing pleasure. The session was aimed at AIR developers of all levels and experience looking at how we approach user experience and some techniques and ideas to enhance your projects.

This was my first major conference session and hopefully the start of many more.
