The BBC have announced their plans to take the iPlayer concept cross platform using the power of Adobe AIR. The blog post by Erik Huggers (director of Future Media and Technology) outlines the future vision for the iPlayer to conform to the corporations platform neutrality aspirations.

Adobe have announces the new Creative Suite edition 4 that appears to offer better RIA development across a range of the tools. You can now create Adobe AIR interfaces in Fireworks CS4 ready for deployment to HTML, SWF or Flex.

This is really going to open up the toolset to more designers which in turn gives us more cool AIR apps! So get ready to get your hands on the new Creative Suite 4.

A leading Chinese property & real estate website is the first to use an Adobe AIR client. Jipingmi.com has launched Jipingmi AIR a desktop version of it’s popular search engine.

I was really pleased to find that this site has been reviewed on Tekzilla (episode 40) by Revision 3.

Being a big fan of the stuff that Revision 3 does I am a regular watcher of Tekzilla and of course Diggnation.

So if you have not checked out the show before now is a good time and with hosts Patrick and Veronica it’s always a good show. Great for viewing on your iPod while en-route to work.

InfoQ has a great case study write up on developing an enterprise AIR application. The NASDEQ Market Replay AIR tool uses Amazon S3 for persistant data storage. Some code is shown as well as the decisions and other encounters whilst building the app.

Well worth the read.

The content is light to begin with however there is a good interview with the guys on The Making of eBay Desktop.

This site will make a great accompaniment to freshAIRapps for any RIA developer.

Techcrunch has broken the story about Twhirl being aquired by the San Fran video/chat startup Seesmic. This is could well be one of the first AIR applications to be aquired. Seesmic is going to integrate their service in to the existing offerings of Twhirl which makes perfect sense. Seesmic is still invite only beta but from what I have seen it looks to be a lot more than a ‘video Twitter’.
