BIG news this from the Adobe MAX keynote in LA. In the forthcoming version of Flash (CS5) you will be able to create applications that compile down to actual real iPhone applications and are deployed using an Adobe AIR type runtime.

Just imagine this the world of iPhone development opened up to all of the great Flash & AIR designers and developers creating great experiences for this device. What excited me even more is that we can take our existing skills and create apps for so many devices ...

Silverlight now competes with AIR on the desktop

comments closed March 19th 2009 | by James

At Mix 09 Microsoft announced that it’s Silverlight product can now run on the desktop for both Windows and Mac. This places the Microsoft offering as a competitor with Adobe AIR.

However upon closer examination the two technologies are coming at the desktop RIA space differently. There have been a lot of confusing reports regarding the Silverlight offering and I wanted to get a more rounded understanding before a rightup. It appears that with Silverlight you can turn any Silverlight web app ...

Flash on the Beach Miami cancelled

comments closed January 16th 2009 | by James

Unfortunately the first FOTB event to be destined for sunny Miami has been cancelled. This is a real shame for the conference following successful events in Brighton, UK. Organiser John Davey has cited the poor economic conditions are causing poor take up in ticket sales. No one to compromise on a quality event John has decided to cancel the event, according to Flashgen.

I knew some of the speakers lined up to present in Miami and It’s a big shame that America is going to miss that FOTB ...

comments closed December 16th 2008 | by James

Adobe have placed the videos of some presentations from this years Adobe Max Conference in North America. Unfortunately they didn’t record any sessions from the European Max so you won’t get to see a rerun of my great session!

So head on over to Adobe TV and get viewing. So far there are two that are targetted specifically AIR but I’m sure more will be added soon.

comments closed November 20th 2008 | by James

Blimey Adobe have been very busy and there is now so much focus on AIR and AIR applications, it’s an exciting time.

It is a SaS (Software as a service) system by Adobe using a REST API that gives developers the ability to reach users without having their own desktop presence like ...

Adobe MAX registrations

comments closed July 24th 2008 | by James

Adobe MAX Europe is now available for early bird registration.

The early bird pricing is available until September 13th for 600 euros plus 20% VAT (720 euros). Compared to some conferences this might seem really expensive, however after attending last year’s Max in Barcelona I can say it was definately worth attending and Adobe put on a good show.

With so many sessions planned you can select a stream that suits you. Expect lots of AIR this time around!

Hopefully I’ll be there this year ...
